Statement by Dak President on International Woman’s Day

With the advent of International Women’s Day, as the world celebrates this historic day, we meet again today to call on the world not to forget the atrocities and violence perpetrated against Yazidi women. More needs to be done in the case of Yazidi survivors of sexual assault. Also, do not forget that about 2,700 Yazidi women and children went missing since seven years. Additionally, paying attention to the displaced people who live in difficult conditions in precarious camps that are no longer livable. We also hope that the international, local and regional community will make more serious efforts to address women’s issues in general in Iraq and the Kurdistan region. As Yazidi women, we aspire to the active participation of women at all levels, building a sustainable future, finding women at all decision-making tables, and moving forward towards achieving all of their goals. We hope that decision-makers will be able to define a concrete strategy to implement the Yazidi Survivors Law on the ground, along with a timetable and strict plan for serious implementation so that all battered women can obtain their rights.
