Psychosocial and Recreational Support Center for Host Community and IDPs in Sharya Complex
Project Description:
The project of Psychosocial and Recreational Support implementing by Dak Organization in partnership with IOM in Shariya Complex and Qadia Camp. The is directly benefiting the beneficiaries in the psychosocial and social cohesion aspects. The project has different kinds of activities for all categories focusing on providing psychosocial support through case management and social activities for groups. The activities are various according to activities categories (Person-focused interventions: 1-Specialized Services and 2-Focused, non-specialized support. Community- focused intervention: 1-Community and family support and 2-Basic services and security). And the activities such as Case Management, Awareness sessions, campaigns, life skills trainings, vocational trainings, art, music, education, capacity building, self-care training.. etc. The duration of the project is 16 months through several phases including volunteering work period. The project focuses on providing community and family support to the IDPs and the host community by participating them to the various activities in the centre. As the centre is located in a strategic location and easy access. Throughout the project, its focus was on three basic outputs: improving the mental state and reducing stress through different sessions and trainings (PSS, Child resilience’s group, relaxation and meditation exercises “Yoga”, individual sessions, caregiver trainings, Art therapy for kids and referral services) for both genders.
The second output is the life skills development of participants. Through participating them in the following training courses (Sewing, Coiffure, Knitting, Literacy and Music).
The third output is to increase integration, strengthen social cohesion, enhancing the social state of people and build trust between IDPs and Host Community by participating them in different activities from a variety of sports activities such as volleyball, tennis and Chess
During this project, a Musical band Group of 15 persons from female and male was created to be a skilled group by training throughout the project period. Special clothes ‘Ezidi Outfit’ was provided for them.
Through all mentioned activities case management is being conducted for cases and referral pathways for specialists.
Sport Activities: Deferent sport activities conducted during one year of project duration such as: Hiking, Biking, Volleyball tournament, and Walking for psychological well-being. Deferent target group Male and Female participated from those activities from IDPs and Host community. The aim of those activities is to make them psychologically comfortable, to increase social cohesion among them and to provide awareness and FGD to participant.
Family visit: During one year of project a lot of Family Visits are conducted. During family visit we were being close to people and find out their issues, we will be near to them in their problems and also we will be able find cases, fill case management. Then referral cases to psychologist. During family visit we will be able to give them emotional support, awareness, and PSS. During family visit we will provide them awareness about deferent topics.
Little Friend Course and Resilience Group for Children: During our project several Little Friend Course and Resilience course conducted to Children. The purpose of this activity is to support and motivate children to get self- relief and get rid of negative energy to positive once through different activities. The children participate in different activities such as: Competitions, Story, Dance, singing, sport activities, use their energy in positive way. In addition, increasing self-trust, peace building, respect, and increasing social cohesion between participants.
AVP Session: AVP program (Alternative to the Violence) focuses on “Reducing violence in the society” through self-detection”. AVP is a community program, offering the opportunity for people to change. This activity conducted once each month during one year of project duration. Deferent target group of Male and Female participated in this activity and get chance to teach them how to be positive and motivator in the life.
Literacy Course: This Course conducted two times during project duration. Each course for 15 women aged (25 to 43 Years Old) to support them learning reading and writing. And support cases and people with psychology and social problems and let them express their feelings and promoting social cohesion between beneficiaries. Many different FGD and awareness will provide to them, and to improve their communication skills. Participants will learn about reading, writing and speaking Arabic to be able to get benefit from the result in their daily life and teach their children in primary school. It’s worth to mention that ISIS survivor and our psychological case participate in this course.
English theater course for Children: This project period this course conducted two times, each time for (15) female and male children from IDPs and Host community. English Training course: The purpose of this activity is to support and motivate children for developing their English communication and core life skills, and taught them English in unusual and fun ways.
Music course: During one year of project, two music course conducted each group is (15) youth (Girls and Boys) from IDPs and host community. During this course the participants will get chance to learn new skills about music and playing music instrument, Folklore dancing and singing. It’s worth to mention that we include our psychological cases to this course.
Painting Course for Children: Painting courses conducted to 10 children from IDPs and host community aged (8 to 12). This activity is conducting three times a week. It’s worth to mention that the trainer is ISIS survivor. Painting is a big part of the little dreamer life. Painting is much more than a simple activity. It is a way for different types of children to express themselves in their own special way. Painting also helps children use their senses, express emotion
Capacity Building: Capacity Building Sessions has been conducted for Center’s Staff and volunteers on different topics such as: Suicide Prevention, MHPSS training, Basic PSS training, Home visit training, GBV and Case management training, Computer Skills, Cognitive Behavior Training, M&E Training, PSEA Training, Exercise SWOT, How to deal with disability, Communication and Self-care Training, PTSD training, Activity Info Training, Time management, How to control feeling, Home visit training and PSEA training. The aim of capacity building is increase in knowledge, development, management, skills…etc.
Events and International days: Celebrate all occasional events in the community to increase social cohesion, community engagement and increase their confidence in the center and celebrate international days. Such as: International Mental Health Day Event International Volunteer Day, 16 Days of Activism, 3 August anniversary Event, International Children’s Day, Jarshamba sur Eid, Iftar Event of Kheder Iliyas Eid, New Year Event, Australia Day Event, ‘Eid Al Jama’ Event,
Sewing course: During project period two Sewing Courses conducted for women. Each group is 15 women from IDPs and host. Supporting cases and people with psychology and social problems and let them express their feelings and promoting social cohesion between beneficiaries (IDPs and host community). We will provide group discussions, awareness and recreational activities during this course.
Awareness sessions and FGD: During one year project duration a lot of Awareness and FGD conducted. Raising awareness and FGDs about issues in community that affecting on their psychology and social cohesion. We do awareness and FGD in different ways inside center for our beneficiary, during family visits or making groups. We conducted deferent topics such as: Psychological Stress, Affective Communication Skills for Problem Solving, human rights, Time management, Suicide prevention, Suicide Prevention, Self-confidence, music benefit and how effect on psychological state, important of sport, early marriage, social relations, human rights, stress management, anxiety, Peace building, Young people and contemporary challenges, Mother and Child relationship building successful social relations, benefit of riding bicycles , time management, Social Media and its impact on the psychological state, Self-Confidence, psychological first aid, Family and Community Problem, and many other topics.
Motivational Film Screening: This activity conducted to deferent target group. We will invite people to attend a movie inside the center. The film will have content: psychological, social, motivational, social cohesion. After showing the film we will ask them for their opinions and feedback about film. The aim of this activity to motivating people, make their self-confidence grow. And increase social cohesion.
Peer support group: During one-year project duration, two peer support group conducted for (Teenager and Women). A psychologist will provide them psychosocial support during peer support group. Psychologist will try to reducing the level stress through this activity.
Coiffure Training: Coiffure training course conducted to 15 women and girl from IDPs and host community. Supporting cases and people with psychology and social problems and let them express their feelings and promoting social cohesion between beneficiaries (IDPs and host community). We will provide group discussions, awareness and recreational activities during this course. During this course we will encourage them to make like livelihood project trying to be more skilled in Coiffure and Beauty Salon and we will encourage them to practice the daily work with each other.
Individual counselling: Individual counseling providing psychological support to cases and involving them in our activities.
Youth Adaptive Training: Youth Adaptive Training conducted to 10 teenagers from IDP and Host community. The purpose of this activity is to: (Restoring normal routine activities during crisis situations or in its wake. To have strong personal and social skills to adapt, adapting to adversity, feeling good about themselves and trusting in their own abilities. Make good and safe life options. To enhance their social presence and play a role model for other children and young women. Seek help from others (Adults) about need and raise awareness about who can help. And Solve problems without resorting to violence).
