Women Role in Social Cohesion and Peace Building through Social Media

Project Description:

Our community initiative, Fostering Social Cohesion & Peace building Through Female-Led Journalism, aimed to increase women’s roles in the process while enabling greater community integration.  Following ISIS’s invasion in 2014, the terrorist organization divided local communities through its violent attacks and hateful propaganda via its online messaging.  Our program aimed to counter this destructive narrative by training a diverse group of Muslim, Yezidi, and Christian women from the IDP and host communities in media and journalism skills. By the end of the program, the participants increased their communication skills to express themselves through a variety of media outlets, including newspapers, radio, and social media, and be exposed to other women’s experiences from different communities and different religious backgrounds. The women will gain self-confidence as they learned professional presentation skills and convey their ideas, opinions, and experiences to a new audience.  By the end of the course, they have learned how media can be an important tool for social cohesion rather than destruction. Women are fundamental drivers of change within their communities and society. They carry responsibility to nurture their families and teach the next generation of children.  By increasing their role in peace building, their family, their community, and their country will benefit. Magazine was created and published by the end of program called (Afrandin) and all beneficiaries wrote their own articles.
