Dak Organization, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Durable Communities and Economic Opportunities (DCEO) – Tahfeez program, has successfully implemented the “Enhancing Social Interaction Among Shekhan Community Through the Educational Sector” project. This initiative focused on fostering social cohesion and inclusivity among Yazidi, Christian, and Muslim communities in Shekhan through targeted educational interventions. The project aimed to increase the level of social interaction and communication among students from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds in Shekhan schools, fostering an inclusive and cohesive community. It achieved this through a series of impactful activities, including a Five-days teacher training program for 24 selected teachers on: Two-day communication and problem-solving skills; a two-day workshop on diversity, inclusion, and peaceful dialogue; a one-day session introducing modern teaching methods; six-day knowledge transfer sessions led by trained teachers to share key learnings with their peers; four general awareness campaigns featuring posters and materials promoting social cohesion, diversity, and inclusion; six awareness sessions aimed at parents to extend messages of acceptance and diversity beyond schools into the community; and the implementation of six student and teacher-led school initiatives addressing community and school issues. The project culminated in a closing celebration showcasing its achievements, including videos and presentations of the initiatives, celebrating the journey of unity and community-building. As a result, the Shekhan community has been transformed, with social tensions reduced and relationships strengthened. Teachers have become champions of inclusivity, students are actively participating in creating a cohesive environment, and parents are embracing diversity. Through these efforts, schools have become hubs of harmony, fostering a brighter, united future for all.
