Enhancing Social Cohesion through Alternatives to Violence in Duhok

Project Promote social cohesion and peace building and holds messages of social cohesion and peacebuilding by targeting 10% disables people, 50% women and 40% young people and all of them will be mixed in one venue from Duhok areas, Sharya, Khanke. Indication of this project will be 80 experienced AVP facilitators and change makers.

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) was a volunteer-run conflict transformation program. Teams of trained AVP facilitators conducted experiential workshops to develop participants’ abilities to resolve conflicts without resorting to manipulation, coercion, or violence. Typically, each workshop lasts 18–20 hours over a three-day period. The workshop events place a strong emphasis on the experiences of the participants, building confidence that everyone contributes something of value to violence prevention. These activities focused on vulnerable communities for instance psychological and psychosocial treatment and support to people healing from the scars of torture and refugee trauma, and who are rebuilding their lives in Duhok area, Khanke, Shariya and surroundings. In particular supporting people and communities from refugee backgrounds, who were forced to leave their land due to persecution in the context of political conflict, organized violence and human rights violation, It also supports and resources service providers, educational institutions and volunteer groups to work more effectively with these groups. DAK targeted 90 youth both genders including disabled people from different areas and backgrounds with fully funded AVP (basic, advanced and facilitation) trainings and workshops. Those 90 candidates were divided into different groups and send to camps and communities to conduct sessions for beneficiairies as AVP facilitators.
