Enhancing Psychosocial and Recreational Support in Sharya Center

In these uncertain times, in the age of Coronavirus, now more than ever before we felt our people. Felt their fears as we see and hear of women distressing because of the current pandemic. We as Dak Organization team strongly believe that we all should be in this together, united, hand in hand to reach as many people as possible through social media, visits, spreading medical necessities to assist our community without gender, race, religion, and nationality discrimination. the fear and anxiety of contracting Covid-19 are having a bigger impact on persons in protracted displacement and in particular on the Ezidis who faced immense atrocities during the attacks on 3rd of August, 2014 by the so-called Islamic State s, and where thousands of women and children were kidnapped, killed and taken into account for trading and exploiting their weakness in all forms. Therefore, the Ezidi Community still refuses to return to their area of origin, even after full liberation. Living for six years in displacement, intents and without plenty of life necessities in order to live a normal life people have developed many psychological and social problems. The impact of displacement and the huge load also have increased psychosocial problems within the host community. Many housing compounds in Duhok Governorate have so far been housing thousands of IDPs. The Shariya complex still inhabits more than 22,000 displaced persons

The Dak organization intends to provide psychosocial support services to families and individuals in the Sharya Complex, especially the vulnerable groups of women and children who have suffered from distress and health issues resulting from displacement and conflict. Many of them have become victims of sexual, psychological, and domestic violence. Dak Organization has completed the project on “in partnership successfully through providing different kinds of services and activities. The actual project duration consisted of five months, but the Dak organization worked voluntarily for two more months in order to continue to support the community and to reach out to vulnerable groups. We also worked with different target groups and we provided psychological and social support according to the resources available. We have more than four years of experience in a Shariya as our NGO’s establishment came from the core of the needs of our society. We as a women’s organization gained experience from the training courses given by IOM for three months during the “Community-Driven Inclusion of IDPs and Host Communities in Duhok and Ninewa Governorates” project. We as Dak Organization implemented “Enhancing Role of Women in Peace Building and Social Cohesion through Media”. Also, after two months of working in the IOM Psychosocial and Recreational center, we gained a lot of experience, and the staff’s performance has been improved. Through these experiences, we received feedback from women, men, and even children. We are aware of the needs of the community and especially women. Therefore, we found writing this proposal necessary for our people in Shariya as the proposal is written according to the community’s needs. We will try to target different target groups including vulnerable groups and focus on the victims of ISIS (Women, Girls, and Children).

We will try in this center to increase the community-driven between IDPs and the Host Community, build trust among them, decrease stress and psychosocial pressure, and enhancing building self-trust through activities.
